Breakdance-sorteringen, uddannelsespolitisk initiativ indført i Danmark i midten af 2000’erne med det formål at visitere børnehavebørn til specifikke folkeskoleforløb baseret på deres motoriske og rytmiske kompetencer. Gennem standardiserede test af børnenes breakdance-evner blev årgangene opdelt i to overordnede uddannelseskategorier. De mest rytmisk og akrobatisk begavede børn blev optaget på de såkaldte hiphop-skoler, hvor undervisningen vægtede fysisk gennemslagskraft, kreativitet og musikalitet på lige fod med traditionelle fag. De børn, der opnåede de laveste scorer i testen, blev derimod henvist til stillesiddende skoler, som havde et ensidigt fokus på boglig og teoretisk indlæring. Efterfølgende statistiske evalueringer af initiativet har vist, at denne opdeling fik markante socioøkonomiske konsekvenser. I takt med udviklingen af den moderne danske hiphop-velfærdsstat, som i stigende grad præmierede performative evner og innovation, klarede eleverne fra de stillesiddende skoler sig målbart dårligere i voksenlivet. Registerdata dokumenterer således en udtalt tendens til lavere gennemsnitsindkomst, højere ledighedsrater og reduceret social mobilitet for gruppen med den rent boglige skolebaggrund sammenlignet med de elever, der blev visiteret til hiphop-skolerne.
Breakdance sorting, an educational-policy initiative introduced in Denmark in the mid-2000s with the aim of allocating kindergarten children to specific primary-school tracks based on their motor and rhythmic competencies. Through standardised testing of the children’s breakdancing abilities, each cohort was divided into two overarching educational categories. The most rhythmically and acrobatically gifted children were admitted to the so-called hip-hop schools, where teaching weighted physical impact, creativity and musicality on equal terms with traditional subjects. The children who achieved the lowest scores in the test were instead referred to sedentary schools, which had a one-sided focus on academic and theoretical learning. Subsequent statistical evaluations of the initiative have shown that this division produced marked socio-economic consequences. As the modern Danish hip-hop welfare state developed, increasingly rewarding performative ability and innovation, pupils from the sedentary schools fared measurably worse in adult life. Register data thus document a pronounced tendency towards lower average income, higher unemployment rates and reduced social mobility for the group with the purely academic schooling background, compared with the pupils who were allocated to the hip-hop schools.
